U3 smart drives host U3 smart applications, computer settings and data allowing people to carry their “personal workspace” with them and to access it on other PCs for a truly mobile experience.

"U3 takes the security of our customers very seriously. As U3 Smart drives continue to enable an ever-increasing array of rich experiences, we see the need to deliver products to help protect our customers from viruses," said Kate Purmal, CEO, U3.

McAfee VirusScan USB removes viruses that can delete important files and data from USB drives. McAfee VirusScan USB ensures that consumers’ USB drives do not transmit viruses and other malware to each PC that a consumer might plug his/her USB drive into. Up-to-date protection against the latest malware is delivered as soon as the software is activated. If viruses are introduced, the software automatically detects and attempts to clean the virus. Installation is fast and easy. It is planned to be made available for download from U3 Software Central (http://software.u3.com). McAfee VirusScan USB is priced at $19.99 for a one year subscription and will also be made available at http://www.mcafee.com.

"U3 provides a unique ‘green field’ distribution opportunity to deploy software and services to millions of new U3 smart drive customers. U3 is catalyzing growth in the already fast-growing USB flash market by making USB flash drives ‘smart,’" said Todd Gebhart, senior vice president worldwide consumer and mobile sales, McAfee. "Security continues to be a crucial concern to consumers, and this product provides an automated and proactive solution that meets consumer and small business needs for cost-effective, easy-to-use security solutions."

McAfee VirusScan® USB was improved over the 1.0 version with a more efficient virus-scanning engine, and it now scans the host PC to make sure it has up-to-date protection. Additionally, the software will actively scan files that have changed, detecting if the changed files have introduced a virus or Trojan.
